John Gray
Let me introduce myself Who am I ? My name is John H Gray, I was born in New Zealand and have lived in Canada for many years. I have pursued an active and rewarding career in the information technology field until my recent retirement. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel and live in different countries. In my travels I have been exposed to many different situations and experienced various cultures firsthand. I previously assisted with, co-authored and edited two books dealing with events that happened on the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba during World War II. These books are “The E.S. Antilla”, which details the scuttling of E.S. Antilla, a German ship that had sought refuge in the neutral waters of the Dutch West Indies at the start of the war, and “The Torpedo Incident at Eagle Beach” which tells the story of the U Boat attack on Aruba and misadventures that resulted. This project was a passion of mine. I spent approximately five years researching the cultures of the characters in the book and the historical events that happened at the various the locations and I have woven a fictional romance and adventure story around these. My purpose in writing this story is for readers to delight in it and become involved in Jakob’s journey. I hope you enjoy the read as much as I enjoyed writing it. In summary, this is the story of a boy born at the beginning of the 1900’s to immigrant Mennonite farmers at the end of the 1890’s who are forced to relocate due to sickness, adverse winters and crop failures. Their heritage is mistaken at the outset of WWI they are confused with Germans and subjected to horrible acts committed through ignorance. Our lead character, Jakob, is witness to these acts. He starts to question why his faith and culture does not allow them to protect themselves. While growing up on the farm he learns of relatives who remained in Europe his family had avoided all discussion of these European kin. He questions this and finally decides to set off to find these relatives who reside in Holland and Germany. Against the advice of friends and family he travels to Europe accompanied by his wife. But after the visit with family in Holland, his wife refuses to accompany him to Germany. fearing a possible war. So, he leaves her behind and travels to Germany alone- only to find himself trapped. Jakob’s life changes. He has affairs and abandons the ways of his faith and culture. His wife, trapped in Holland also and has an affair with a Dutch Resistance writer. The story continues to track their respective lives through and after the horrors of World War II. Jakob flees Germany and by chance ends up in Aruba in the Caribbean. Jakob befriends many locals and works at several different jobs. He saves and invests into the developing Tourist industry. He remarries and starts a successful series of businesses, Jakob finally establishes himself in the Caribbean. This story will appeal to readers interested in the adventure of a young man looking for peace within himself, his romances and misadventures. There is a flavor of life in San Nicolaas, Aruba in the 1940’s.

Steve Catto
About: Steve Catto is an old man, or at least that's what it says on his birth certificate. He was born in Yorkshire, but his parents took him to Australia when he was six years old and he grew up there, sometimes racing cars across the desert.

He was never very good at school, but the one thing he did learn was how to learn, and he started writing programs for the computer at the local university, much to the disdain of his teachers who told him that he would ‘never make a living out of that rubbish'. In his late teens he returned to the UK, and his parents followed him – which wasn't what he wanted because he was hoping to get away from them. His first proper job was in the computer department of an infamous Oxford publishing company, and he subsequently went on to write software for electricity control systems, and simulators for the military. He started to fly gliders and wrote programs to analyse the data from aircraft flight recorders, where he also learned to fly, and crash, lots of other types of aircraft as well – which was the best part of the job. At various times in his career he has also lived and worked in France, Switzerland, and Canada, and he now lives in Scotland. Since appearing in school plays as a child he has performed almost continuously on the amateur stage, and spent a few years scuba diving. These two things have nothing to do with each other. In terms of his pedigree as an author he has written many technical manuals and filled in countless timesheets, so is well versed in the art of conjuring up works of fiction, however he has never written a novel before, especially not one that involves a blonde girl and a man with a bow and arrow, but he did once spend three weeks working in a factory that made handles for buckets.
